MORE IS NOT ALWAYS MORE - CREATE SPACE
The golden rule is also one of the most important life hacks: less is simply more. Knick-knacks and clutter are useless dust catchers that take up unnecessary space and are usually only 'in vogue' for a short time. When furnishing small living spaces in particular, opt for fewer and sustainable products. After all, once you have moved in, you will have to move out at some point.
DOORS / DRAWERS ARE STORAGE SPACE - USE IT
Unbelievable, but true: even the fullest wardrobe often hides unused space. If you attach hooks to the inside of the wardrobe doors, you can easily store scarves, ties, jewellery, scarves or hats. Clutter in certain drawers is sometimes unavoidable. Especially if these storage spaces contain accessories and small odds and ends. The solution: place several open boxes in the drawers to give the shelves an automatic structure. Incidentally, this principle is particularly practical for make-up items and underwear.
FOLDING FURNITURE - FAVOURABLE & SPACE-SAVING
Residents of smaller flats save valuable space with practical folding furniture. A bed or table is attached to the wall and only folded down into the living area when needed. This trick looks particularly tidy if the folding piece of furniture disappears into a pretty cupboard when not in use. You can also create more storage space thanks to so-called multi-functional furniture: armchairs or sofas with inner compartments offer space for guest bed linen and other items that are not used every day.
DAILY-USE: ASSIGNING OBJECTS TO A NEW PURPOSE
That old shelf, the table from the flea market, the chest of drawers that just doesn't match your style anymore - with this upcycling tutorial, you can easily paint your furniture yourself and turn it into a real interior highlight. Are you ready?
A ladder as a towel railToo little space for the towels? A simple wooden ladder from the DIY store can help and keep things tidy. A bamboo rung ladder looks particularly pretty and decorative. Our ultimate life hack for the bathroom.
Favourable designer furniture: But sometimes it's also nice to treat yourself to something special. Designer furniture is often available at accurate prices at furniture outlets or online in the sales. In shops, it's worth asking for items on display. These are usually considerably cheaper.
Euro pallets: A completely different magic formula, however, is: "DIY-Do It Yourself". Euro pallets are a real decorative, practical and super-affordable secret weapon in this context. They can be purchased for as little as 7 euros each. The pallets can easily be used to make stylish and sturdy furniture such as shelves, beds or cosy sofa landscapes for indoors and outdoors.
Furniture upcycling: Furniture upcycling in general is another life hack that always works simply and effectively. Whether fruit crates, old suitcases or plastic drinks crates: ingenious furniture suitable for everyday use can be made from so many objects. Another tried and tested trick is to replace the handles on old furniture. This gives them a completely different look without having to spend a lot of money.
Chain the curtains: Do you have pretty necklaces and bracelets that you like but no longer wear? Great, then you already have the right equipment for the trendy boho vibes! Fashion accessories made from natural materials such as wood and colourful stones make wonderful, original curtain clasps: Simply gather up the curtain, wrap the jewellery around it or close it - done!
DO IT YOURSELF - BUT DO IT
Hide ugly everyday objects:
Nowadays, every household needs a router. Unfortunately, they are also very unattractive to look at. However, if you place a pretty object of roughly the same size in front of it, you will be spared the router look. This trick works wonderfully with the cut-off spine of an old book, for example. However, the unsightly visual effect of black cables on white walls is often underestimated. Our life hack for this problem: black cables can be hidden in no time at all with simple, white cable ducts. This also makes them inaccessible to children and pets.
Set accents:
It doesn't always have to be colourful furniture and walls. You can also add a fresh splash of colour to your home in a much more subtle way. For example, you can create surprising accents by painting the inside edges of doors or a wall unit. Even a few shiny dots on the wall, which can be easily applied with stencils, make quite a statement. If you don't want to wield a paintbrush, you can also create a personalised picture wall with your own photos.
Remove dents and risk of slipping:
Some carpets tend to develop unsightly dents if a piece of furniture has stood on them for too long. However, these flattened areas can be quickly repaired by covering them with a towel and then carefully ironing them with a steam iron. If some strong adhesive tape is formed into a roll with the sticky side facing outwards and placed under the corners of a carpet, this trick can prevent dangerous tripping hazards. This is because the carpet does not slip and no longer forms protruding edges.
Straight pictures:
It's absolutely annoying when photos constantly slip out of their frames. But with a very simple life hack, they will stay where they should permanently: Place a rubber band between the inside of the frame and the back of the photo before hanging the picture on the wall.
Retro look:
The older generations often don't realise that vintage-style and retro-look items are all the rage among the younger generations. There are often discarded treasures stored in basements, garages and attics that, with a little skill, can give a modern interior a very special flair. Flea markets are also real treasure chests. Our extra tip: Shortly before the flea market ends, dealers usually prefer to reduce the price rather than transport the furniture back to their warehouse.
